Job Description |
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is in search of a part-time adjunct faculty Certified Nurse Aide (
CNA) instructor. This position will serve Southwest Virginia Community College's Workforce and Continuing Education division. The instructional workload will be based on demand in surrounding communities serviced by Southwest Virginia Community College. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and create a student-oriented learning environment. Classes may be offered on days, evenings, or weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES
INCLUDE:
- Creates course curriculum, assignments, and assessments; refines and modifies as industry dictates.
- Expected to be reliable, responsible, professional, and efficient.
- Promotes and supports student success.
- Teaches Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) courses as assigned, utilizing a curriculum that prepares and enables students to receive a credential and pass applicable exams to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA).
- Serve as an academic advisor to a diverse population of students.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at one of the Southwest Virginia Community College (
SWCC) locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap, Partnering Career and Technology Centers in Public Schools). |
Special Assignments |
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. |
KSA's/Required Qualifications |
- The successful candidate will possess a minimum of five years of experience as a CNA, LPN, or RN.
- Must possess all applicable certifications required to instruct the course effectively.
- The successful candidate also must possess an expert level of skills and abilities necessary to pass the Virginia Board of Nursing exam.
- Must also possess knowledge of local and regional healthcare facilities and systems.
- Must be very detailed oriented and have the ability to meet set deadlines.

Additional Considerations |
- Prior teaching experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of computer systems, including being proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Associate/Bachelors or higher degree.
