Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Electronic Data Exchange Analyst!
About the role
As the Electronic Data Exchange (EDX) Analyst you will implement new file feeds by creating SFTP's, customized specifications, implementation plans, and feed testing responses post notice receipt of new feed for various sized policyholders. You'll process ongoing feeds to find and correct data issues, including eligibility and contract rules. In addition, you'll utilize your advanced knowledge of analytical techniques and ability to escalate issues as needed after data interpretation. Primary Responsibilities


  • The Electronic Data Exchange Analyst will need to determine which activities are necessary in order to complete file feed processing from implementation to active production file management.
  • Stakeholder identification, selection of analysis techniques, and the candidate will develop processes that will be used to manage requirements, and how to access the progress of the work.
  • Builds relationships with business partners including users, vendors, project team, and management at all levels.
  • Develops a communication plan during feed implementation to meet the needs of all business partners and can adapt communication style to different audiences.
  • Utilizes basic analysis techniques to measure the quality of the data exchanged using business analysis techniques during feed testing.
  • Electronic Data Exchange Analyst will manage conflicts, issues and changes in order to ensure that stakeholders and the end users remain in agreement on the data exchange.
  • The candidate will utilize requirements and communicate them to stakeholders.
  • Knowledge gained by the data exchange analyst is to be shared and maintained with team members for future use.
  • Manages changes to requirements.
  • Maintains traceability of the requirements from planning through post-production phases of files to ensure quality of delivery.
  • Creates basic specifications inclusive of policyholder specific details to support development of feeds.
  • Facilitates reviews of requirements, to small groups, using informal techniques.
  • Send post testing review communication via email and follow up on takeaways routinely until feed is in production status to all appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicate production status to all appropriate stakeholders.
  • The Electronic Data Exchange Analyst will work with stakeholders to identify and understand their needs and the environment in which they work.
  • Ability to use the analysis techniques, identified in planning, to accurately flush out requirements for the file feed and system or process customization.
  • Maintain tracker & ongoing production file management.
  • Documents the requirements so that the stakeholders (vendors/brokers/policyholders) understand and can review.
  • Validates the requirements are what the stakeholders intended in order to meet their needs.
  • Identify business needs, refine and clarify the definition of the needs and validate the solution meets the needs.
  • Can help with problem definition and analysis, file feed development, feasibility, and timeline estimation of the feed project to production.
  • Has a basic understanding of business functions such as Service and Operations, Sales and Distribution, Compliance, IT, etc.
  • Understands organizational culture and uses relationships to influence decisions.
  • Has a basic understanding of the framework of the company structure, people, processes and technology.
  • The Electronic Data Exchange Analyst will prioritize and progressively elaborate stakeholder and solution requirements in order to enable the end user to implement a solution that will meet the needs of the organization and stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize requirements based on business value.
  • Assess small amounts of information and can organize in ways that various stakeholders understand.
  • Assess the proposed solution due to data limitations to determine which solution best fits the business need, identify gaps in the solution, and determine necessary workarounds or changes to the solution.
  • Validates the solution meets the business goals.
  • Analyzes the impact on existing workflows, processes, and procedures that will occur with the implementation of the solution.
  • Utilize process modeling tools and techniques in order to identify and break down phases of a process in order to create an understanding of the inputs, outputs, and operations that take place during each phase of feed onboarding and maintenance.
  • Help define the requirements, and identify gaps in requirements and workflows.
  • Develop customer specifications to ensure business needs are met.
  • Facilitate feed testing for various-sized policyholders.
  • Document test plans for files, test files, and share feed results.

Your education, experience and skills


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • 4 years work experience.
  • 2 years minimum of Insurance experience 3 years experience Basic understanding of enterprise systems Basic understanding and ability to apply analysis techniques.
  • Analytical Thinking and Problem Solving including the ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details and apply sound business knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to adjust according to the audience.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks individually and independently, as well as work collaboratively with teams, some of which may be geographically distributed.
  • Takes initiative, ability to quickly acquire knowledge, and results driven.
  • Ability to take basic abstract and ambiguous information and organize into meaningful facts for business partners to understand.
  • General understanding how feed data may affect the whole system itself and some of the downstream systems, interfaces, workflow and processes.
  • Ability to identify basic problems and ensure that solution solves the problems. Can come up with some new ideas regarding how to fix smaller problems.
  • Understanding of business environment, operations, process and practices relating to: basic business functions and operations, organization structure, regulatory, compliance and governance frameworks.
  • Understanding of company products and business model.
  • Advanced understanding of how products are supported by multiple systems.
  • Verifies information communicated is understood and the person(s) receiving the information can apply what they have heard.
  • Ability to build relationships with team members and stakeholders.
  • Contributes to a collaborative working environment and builds trust with others.
  • Ability to learn new software and systems in order to gain knowledge of how they work and are used by customers.
  • Bachelor's Degree in business preferred.
