Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the UC Davis Medical Center is pleased to offer a Staff Psychologist position. The position is located primarily at the Sacramento County Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services (CAPS) Clinic, a community mental health clinic that serves a highly diverse and underserved Medi-Cal population. The CAPS Clinic also serves as a primary site for the APA-accredited UC Davis Clinical Child Doctoral Psychology Internship and APPIC-member Clinical Child Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship. In addition, part-time child and adolescent psychiatry fellows complete a rotation at the CAPS Clinic. These programs serve children and adolescents with multiple environmental stressors including low income, unemployment, poor social support, and/or family history of mental health or alcohol/substance abuse problems.

An ideal candidate possesses specialized training, education, and clinical experience working with infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and families. The Staff Psychologist position involves a mix of direct care in therapy, psychological assessment, and crisis intervention as well as supervising and teaching trainees. The Staff Psychologist works collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team of child psychiatrists, child psychology and psychiatry trainees, medical students, and clinicians in an outpatient setting. The Staff Psychologist will spend 80% if their time providing direct clinical service including psychological assessment and therapeutic treatment to clients and families. The time will be spent in academic pursuits including providing training and supervision to licensed and unlicensed trainees on culturally responsive evidence-based individual, family and group interventions, and psychological assessments.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • California Licensed Psychologist (PSYCH)
  • Current licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the state of California.
  • Completion of Ph.D. or Psy.D., from an APA accredited graduate school, and completion of one year in a post-doctoral APA accredited internship.
  • Training, experience, and licensure to provide evidence-based psychotherapy and assessments to children and adolescents.
  • Experience In working with ethnically diverse and underserved populations that struggle with multiple environmental stressors, including low income, family mental health problems, Involvement with Child Protective Services (CPS), lack of resources, or substance and alcohol problems.
  • Training and experience in providing supervision to residents, trainees and medical students in group and individual psychotherapy.
  • Clinical experience in conducting assessment and psychotherapy services with children and parents; conducting family therapy in a psychiatric setting; and conducting semi-structured interviews.
  • Specific training in child/adolescent development, psychopathology, trauma, family systems and psychological assessments/evaluations
  • Understanding of development within a systemic and attachment-based framework
  • Knowledge of and experience with a range of psychometric approaches, including Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to assess children and youth exposed to child maltreatment. Experience and Interest in providing supervision and teaching to predoctoral clinical interns and post-doctoral fellows in clinical psychology, child psychiatry fellows and medical students.
  • Training, experience, and license to provide evidence-based psychotherapy and assessments to children and parents, cognitive-behavioral therapy to child and parents and family therapy to children and parents, as appropriate.
  • Administrative ability to develop and implement policy, to oversee professional billing, business obligations and contractual requirements related to patient care, and to prepare formal psychological evaluation and discharge summaries in accordance with accepted, professional standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in collaborating with professionals from multiple systems of care, including child protective services, educational settings, and juvenile justice. Knowledge of basic neuropsychological principles and neuropsychological assessments for children and adolescents.
  • Interest in developing a neuropsychological component of postdoctoral training program.
  • Interest and/or experience in multicultural psychology.
