The Associate CFO partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer to lead and manage the organization's Finance and Accounting operations in alignment with both short- and long-term strategic goals. This role provides direct oversight of key departments, including Supply Chain Operations, General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Cash Management, Capital Asset Management, Financial Systems Governance, and Labor Productivity. The Associate CFO ensures optimal resource allocation, process efficiency, system integrity, and operational performance. This leader plays a critical role in financial reporting, audit preparation, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across financial functions.
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Collaborates with the CFO to develop policies, financial reporting standards, and strategic plans that support organizational objectives.
Operational Oversight
- Provides leadership and guidance across key financial departments:
- Supply Chain (procurement, warehousing, inventory, costing)
- General Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Controller functions
- Cash flow and working capital management
- Labor productivity and position management analytics
- Capitalization structure and external funding stability
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partners with finance leadership to ensure interdepartmental awareness and alignment, especially in areas such as Revenue Cycle and Supply Chain.
Systems Governance
- Oversees Workday Financial Systems, ensuring system optimization and adherence to change management best practices.
Financial Reporting
- Reviews monthly financial statements and budget variance analysis for accuracy and insights.
Accounting Standards and Audit
- Ensures consistent accounting procedures are in place; oversees preparation and completion of the annual audit and Form 990 filing.
Employee Engagement and Culture
- Promotes departmental scorecards and action planning aimed at achieving Tier I employee engagement survey results.
Capital Asset Management
- Directs financial planning and management for the annual capital budget.
Budget Management
- Provides oversight of both the operating and capital budgets, including compliance review and variance tracking.
Leadership and Personnel Development
- Manages direct reports and provides guidance to finance leaders on hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
Culture and Compliance
- Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy in all interactions; supports diversity, quality improvement, and safety initiatives.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations and participates in compliance and training activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Health/Public Administration
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in hospital Finance and Accounting
- Demonstrated ability to align financial strategies with organizational goals
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting systems, and healthcare reimbursement practices
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proven experience engaging with executive leadership and boards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
