Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Faculty Affairs strives to promote an environment that ensures the success of faculty, regardless of career path. We provide leadership, guidance and oversight of university-wide strategies and programs to provide resources for faculty success.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.The Faculty Employee Relations Consultant is responsible for managing performance and conduct matters for faculty employees. This role involves providing expert advice and support on a range of employee relations issues, conducting investigations, and ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable laws. The consultant will coordinate with the Office of University Counsel and the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office to resolve complex employee relations issues. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, the consultant will work closely with the Senior HR Consultant and will serve to triage faculty employee relations matters routed to the Office of Faculty Affairs. They will work closely with faculty, administrators, and human resources to foster a positive work environment and promote effective conflict resolution.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices related to performance management and conduct issues.
  • Proven experience in conducting investigations and managing complex employee relations cases.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in employee relations, human resources, or a related field. Proficiency in using HR information systems, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience delivering training and/or presentations to a wide variety of audiences at all levels including senior leaders.

Must be able to remain in a single or stationary location/position for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
