Rocket Motor Engineer
Contingent upon prime contractor approval
Purpose:
- Valkyrie Enterprises has need for a Rocket Motor Engineer in Huntsville, AL. Work is in the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Chief Engineer office.
- Includes delivering expertise across multiple programs developing the next generation of reentry vehicles, rocket motors, and counter measures in support of creating realistic test environments for the nation's missile defense systems.
Job Description:
- Provide expertise in support of numerous rocket motor launch vehicle systems from short to long range class motors. These systems range from established systems with decades of heritage to new systems preparing for first flight events.
- Provide independent review of commercial launch systems capabilities and suitability for use for MDA flight test events.
- Evaluate design, manufacturing, test, and qualification programs for all aspects of a motor, to include the case, nozzle, and propellent.
- Apply expertise in motor systems to evaluate thrust performance based on case and propellent design and make recommendations to senior leaders on trade-offs and capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Must have a Masters degree with at least 12+ years working on missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program / project or Bachelor's degree with 20+ years working on missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program / project.
- Must have experience with Stress, Loads, and Structures analysis.
- Must have experience with propellent grain manufacturing and characterization.
- Must have familiarity with ground test operations related to motor firings.
- Must have knowledge of metal and composite materials common to Rocket motor design.
- Must have Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
- Must have familiarity with MDA and/or DoD programs and processes.
Desired Qualifications:
- MDA/DoD experience and familiarity with the Missile Defense System, preferred.
- Familiarity with MDA flight test targets and threats, preferred.
- Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools, preferred.
Security Requirements:
- Must have an Active DoD Secret Security clearance, and the ability to maintain clearance
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less
- If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
- Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Communicating with others to exchange information
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds
