Audit Manager
Dallas, TX - hybrid, 4 days onsite

Vaco is working on behalf of one of our publicly-traded clients to onboard an Audit Manager to assist in the build-out of an audit team after a recent spinoff. Will be instrumental in designing the infrastructure of the department - leading process narratives and flowcharts, developing the RCM, and implementing SOX controls.

Audit Managers must have either publicly-traded experience or dealt with public clients in public accounting as well as a CPA and/or CIA designation.

Compensation: $130-140K

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and execute the company's annual risk-based internal audit plan.
  • Build and manage the Internal Audit team, including recruitment, training, and development of staff.
  • Lead the company's SOX compliance program, including scoping, risk assessment, control design evaluation, testing, remediation, and reporting.
  • Perform operational, financial, and compliance audits to assess the effectiveness of controls, accuracy of financial records, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify control gaps, process improvement opportunities, and best practices to strengthen the company's internal control environment.
  • Prepare clear, concise audit reports and present findings and recommendations to executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Legal, IT, and Operations to support business objectives while maintaining an effective control environment.
  • Monitor emerging audit, compliance, and regulatory trends relevant to the company.
  • Oversee coordination with external auditors to support quarterly reviews, annual audits, and SOX testing where applicable.
  • Foster a culture of risk awareness, ethical behavior, and operational excellence throughout the organization.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, CIA, or other relevant certification strongly preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, public accounting, or a combination, including experience with SOX compliance for public companies.
  • Previous experience building or significantly scaling an internal audit function is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, internal controls, SOX 404 requirements, and COSO framework.
