Hourly Pay Range:

$35.16 - $54.50 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Technical Specialist (MLS)
  • Location: Evanston Hospital
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm, e/o weekend and rotating holidays
  • Required Travel: Yes

What you will do:

  • Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clinical microbiology tests in one or more sections of the laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Ensures the accuracy and precision of diagnostic results through performance of maintenance and calibration of multiplex instrumentation systems.
  • Routinely resolves technical and interdepartmental problems related to the various laboratory areas.
  • Readily identify problems that may adversely affect performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying supervising personnel when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with others. Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Responsible for the operations of a laboratory discipline including, but not limited to: technical and all regulatory, method evaluation, QC, troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, supplies and inventory, and staff competencies.
  • Perform a variety of routine and special Laboratory procedures as authorized by the Manager or Director including rotation through at least three (3) areas of the Clinical Lab.

What you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Associate's degree and the required courses to meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing.
  • Certification: MT or MLS (ASCP) preferred
  • Experience:
    • Internal MT/MLS Candidate: Three (3) years of experience including one (1) year at the Senior Lab Associate level at NorthShore. Internal MLT Candidate: Three (3) years of experience as an MT, including one (1) year at the Senior Lab Associate level at NorthShore.
    • External MT/MLS Candidate: Six (6) years' experience including two (2) years in a supervisory/technical resource position.
    • External MLT Candidate: Eight (8) years of experience in a healthcare setting of comparable complexity, including two (2) years in a supervisory/technical resource position.
  • Unique or Preferred Skills: Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to Microbiology. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel. Demonstrated effective communication and organization skills. Demonstrated success in undertaking additional responsibilities and bringing them to fruition. Proven ability to work cooperatively with others and inspire their cooperation. Demonstrated leadership skills.
