This is a hybrid role with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of our Chicago, IL office.

The Accounts Payable Accountant role is responsible for Processing invoices, checks and wires for payments in accordance with Accounts Payable policies and procedures. Be part of a highly collaborative team in a fast-paced environment where you will have the autonomy to make the role your own.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Processing invoices, checks and wires for payments. This requires a detailed knowledge of debits and credits as well as the structure of the general ledger.
  • Responding to vendor inquiries, researching, and resolving payment issues in a timely manner. Managing the process of onboarding new vendors.
  • Assisting in reconciling bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and preparing related journal entries.
  • Updating and maintaining procedures documentation related to the accounts payable process for audit.
  • Creating and maintaining metrics reports, developing new reports as needed
  • Support accurate weekly and monthly metrics reporting.
  • Engage other groups within Rail and Corporate A/P as appropriate.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of experience in Accounting, Finance

-OR-

Business OR High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or Business

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Experience analyzing big data sets in different reports, identifying issues, and creating reports using the data.
  • Extremely organized and have strong attention to detail
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Experience handling a high-volume of invoices
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-starter willing to take full responsibility and ownership of job

The hourly rate for this position is relative to your experience but the range is generally $28.85 - $35.10 per hour.

Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
