Requisition #:1044 Job Title : Linux System Administrator III Location: Aberdeen Proving Grounds Aberdeen, Maryland 21005 Clearance Level: Active DoD - Secret Required Certifications: * Security+ (required) * Linux Computing Environment Cert (within 90 days of onboarding) SUMMARY The U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) of the U.S. Army Research Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) is the Army's corporate laboratory. It's a diverse assortment of unique facilities and a dedicated workforce of government and private sector partners make up the largest source of world-class integrated research and analysis in the U.S. Army. ARL discovers, innovates and transitions research in order to provide the best technologies for our Soldiers. ARL's program consists of basic and applied research and survivability/lethality and human factors analysis. The Linux Systems Administrator/Engineer will be responsible for the remediation, patching, and upgrading of all Linux systems within the Army Research Lab Enterprise Environment. This position requires the use of scripting, automation, and 3rd party remediation tools. Experience working in centralized management environments using remote access techniques is required. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide system administration support for Linux operating systems including installing software, applying patches, managing file systems, monitoring performance, and troubleshooting alerts from monitoring tools. * Analyzes and resolves problems associated with the operating system, servers, hardware, and applications software. Detects, diagnoses, and reports related problems on servers, including system failure analysis and recovery, insuring the consistency and integrity of file systems. * In-depth hardware configuration knowledge, shell programming expertise, and a solid understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performs a variety of tasks, and works under general supervision. * Responsible for daily monitoring of interface programs between multiple enterprise systems; review daily logs and ensure successful completion. * Perform incremental and full cold backups/patching. * Responsible for DoD Linux Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). * Provide performance metrics and usage charts, including CPU usage, disk usage and network uptime for the Linux Servers. * Provide general maintenance, upgrades, and new installation of servers and coordinate with data center personnel to execute. Document and generate business processes for day-to-day and emergency support procedures. * Install, test, and verify Linux Security patches; coordinating, documenting requirements and timelines, and working closely with service owners. * Perform systems security administration functions, including creation and maintenance of customer profiles and accounts. * Responsible for creating and/or maintaining standard operating procedures for the Linux documentation library. * Implement, configure, update, and maintain Ansible servers and scripts. * Implement, configure, update, and maintain STIG Manager servers and scripts. * Implement, configure, update, and maintain the Linux operating system firewall. QUALIFICATIONS Education, Background, and Years of Experience * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Related Field * Meet or Exceed IAT III 8570 baseline certification requirements * RedHat or Ansible Certifications desired * Strong background in RMF, STIG and compliance ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Required Skills * Strong understanding of virtual and physical networking configuration * Strong hardware, software and network troubleshooting skill sets * RedHat 7, or higher, Enterprise administration, including workstation and server * ACAS/Nessus experience or similar vulnerability scanner familiarity * Experience using distributed file systems * 5-7 years of experience Preferred Skills * Ansible * Puppet * RedHat or CentOS WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental Conditions * Contractor site with 0%-10% travel possible. Possible off-hours work to support releases and outages. General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Strength Demands * Sedentary - 10 lbs. Maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles. Some occasional walking or standing may be required. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
