The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. |
Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Security Officer/ Parking Enforcement for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The posiition is under the immediate direction of a Security Supervisor, or other University Police personnel.
As directed the Security Officer/Parking Enforcement will:
- Performs a wide variety of security and parking functions to ensure the safety of persons, protect property, maintain order and enforce the rules and regulations of the University.
- Dependent upon assignment, observes, recognized and reports conditions that adversely affect public safety or University policy.
- Issues written Security Failure Notices and University Parking Summonses.

- Valid driver's license, two years of driving experience and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Requires ability to effectively communicate in English, both in writing and via two way radio.
- Requires the ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
- Mandatory overtime required as necessary.
- Must be able to successfully complete the NJ CUPSA Basic Security Officer Training Class and maintain applicable certification as required.
- In accordance with New Jersey State law, applicants must agree to undergo and authorize the university to conduct fingerprint, criminal history and/or child abuse record checks with various law enforcement agencies, including but not limited to: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification Division and/or the New Jersey Division of State Police, Bureau of Identification.
- Applicants must also assume any costs incurred by the university associated with the background investigations whether required by statute or not.
- Any criminal record will affect consideration of a candidate's application.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous security/parking enforcement experience;
- High school graduate;
- Previous security/parking enforcement experience;
- Previous security experience in a college setting and CPR & AED certification;
- Ability to work shifts that may include weekends and evenings.
