SUMMARY
The Gupta Laboratory in the Divisions of Cardiovascular Medicine and Genetics is looking for a Research Lab Tech II with prior experience in animal models of atherosclerosis or vascular disease to join our team. We study the genetics of cardiometabolic disease using a broad range of technologies, including human genetics, cellular assays, single cell RNA-sequencing and mouse models of atherosclerosis. This work is funded with foundation, industry and NIH resources. The current job is ideal for candidates interested in developing new therapies for cardiometabolic disease and helping lead efforts to conduct in vivo validation experiments in mice.
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
Perform routine laboratory tests (i.e.: cell culture, immunohistochemistry, molecular assays, Western blotting, protein purification, ELISA, etc) and synthesize and interpret results.
Maintain mouse colonies. Conduct genotyping, basic husbandry duties, set up breeding cages, coordinate different diets, surgeries, and tissue harvests. Prior experience with animal studies is required.
May prepare written and/or verbal reports on status of research and the technical procedures used, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions.
May be involved in preparation of abstracts or papers.

Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.
Independence of Action: Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided. Work is monitored by supervisor/manager.
Written Communications: Ability to read, and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients, families and other medical center staff; and respond to basic questions.
Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English in order to follow basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively in basic English with patients, families and medical center staff in response to routine questions.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Engineering, Physiology, Life Science, or a related scientific field required.
