Overall Summary

As Manager, Purchasing, you will be responsible for the procurement function related to the purchasing of materials which support the company's various product lines. This role is also responsible for the management of supplier relationships, including price and lead-time negotiations, providing volume forecasts, placement of purchase orders and confirmation of delivery schedules. You will provide leadership and direct the activities of the Procurement department. You will be responsible for development and compliance to departmental and company policies, creating staff development plans, performance metrics and reporting on the departmental activities. You must be able to analyze data from multiple sources, recognize trends and develop appropriate strategies to meet company cost and supply requirements and develop short- and long-term solutions to mitigate risks to the supply chain. This role will also act as the Procurement lead on supplier transfer and NPI projects. This is a high-level decision-making position that requires advanced abilities in problem solving, analysis, reasoning and creativity. Must be able to compromise and arrive at decisions in a shared responsibility, team environment. Responsible to support department annual cost savings targets; outcome of decisions could impact company's financial performance and customer service levels.

Your duties will include:



  1. Provide leadership, develop staff and conduct individual meetings.
  2. Develop purchasing requirements plan to meet inventory and service objectives.
  3. Manage an efficient flow of incoming material to ensure optimum production.
  4. Review and approve purchase orders, adhering to all company policies and procedures.
  5. Monitor supply risk for the various purchased goods and services and implement actions to reduce this risk.
  6. Leads strategically critical projects that bring exceptional value to the company through total cost reduction, key supplier relationships, commodity focus, supplier consolidation, cost/benefit financial analysis, capacity shortages, and supplier quality management. Develop inventory plans for acquisition and new product development.
  7. Analyze current plans and recommend procurement alternatives.
  8. Monitor inventory levels at various locations and take corrective actions in order to meet customer requirements.
  9. Actively Participate in meetings with Supply Chain stakeholders
  10. Actively Participate in meetings with Supplier Quality to review and improve Supplier Performance
  11. Review and approve Change Requests that may have potential impact on product supply.
  12. Participate in supplier on-site meetings, as well as off-site meetings and supplier audits.
  13. Maintain awareness of market conditions and trends, provide cost and supply analysis.
  14. Resolve internal and external procurement related problems.

About You

Knowledge of inventory, production and demand planning functions is a plus.
Thorough working knowledge of:
* Implementation and use of ERP and position related modules (JDE preferred)
* Manufacturing capacity planning, including contract manufacturing at multiple locations for established and new products.
* Advanced supplier assessment and negotiation skills.
* Project Management experience associated with Procurement and New Product Development.
* LEAN manufacturing principles and/or six-sigma experience.
* Global supply chain and customer demand management.
* New product release and involvement in acquisition transition
* Previous experience in development and training/coaching of co-workers
* Financial analysis and decision making based on total cost comparison
* Development of long-term supply agreements
* Purchasing policies and procedures
* Medical device regulations and process validation
* Results focus with ability to foresee and respond to an ever-changing supply environment
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with varying degrees of complexity

YOUR EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in business, engineering, or related field

Preferred: Master's Degree, preferably in business, engineering, or related field

Extensive position related experience of no less than seven years may be substituted in lieu of degree.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Minimum 5 years' related work experience in both direct purchasing and team leadership function; experience in a medical device manufacturing environment highly preferred.

For internal reference, this position is a level 7.
