Tunnel Ventilation Engineer

Delve Underground is looking for a Tunnel Ventilation Engineer for our Burlington, Massachusetts or New York offices. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and designing ventilation systems in tunnels for heavy civil underground projects. The candidate will also assess fire and life safety systems for these facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide knowledge and expertise in the design and construction of ventilation systems for tunnels
  • Develop design manuals, technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications for tunnels
  • Strategize ventilation concepts to determine tenability and fire life safety requirements
  • Optimize ventilation competence using SES and CFD models and tunnel ventilation design equipment
  • Evaluate and prepare recommendations for emergency egress and fire department access
  • Prepare technical reports with recommendations for tunnel ventilation system commissioning
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to review design drawings and accurately develop models that reflect tunnel networks
  • Support activities during the commissioning and construction phases
  • Provide technical insight for mid and large-scale projects
  • Grow and maintain technical client relationships
  • Assist in recruiting additional tunneling staff

Qualifications

  • BS in civil engineering or a related field; MS preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in tunnel ventilation and underground structures
  • Professional registration (PE) in Massachusetts or New York preferred and willingness to register in other states as if necessary
  • Experience with regulatory requirements for tunnel ventilation and fire safety in railways and underground spaces
  • Understanding and experience with interpretation of NFPA 130 and NFPA 502 and building codes
  • Understanding of systems engineering, integration, equipment testing and implementation
  • Must have thorough knowledge of various tunnel ventilation techniques and understand CFD modelling
  • Understanding of tunnel ventilation system commissioning and testing and balancing of fans
  • Ability and willingness to travel for short-term projects
