Position Summary

The optimum candidate will assist the Operations Manager in leading a staff including Lead Operators, Control Room Operators, and Station Technicians while working a dayshift schedule. Oversee the operation of a central control room of generating units and auxiliary systems to assure safe, efficient and reliable operation within environmental constraints in response to electric system requirements. Performs training and development activities as well as staff assessment and performance reviews.

Duties & Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to the following:

• Reviews performance with customers/clients and addresses opportunities for improvement

• Ensures all Company resources are utilized in a cost effective manner, estimates resource requirements, monitors expenditures, and reports on performance of assigned area

• Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance

• Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress

• Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them

• Coordinates unit operations and maintenance activities

• Coordinates and communicates with dispatching, maintenance and other organizations

• Coordinates emergency response efforts (i.e. hurricane preparedness and staffing, environmental spill response, etc.)

• Maintains working relationships with employees consistent with personnel policies and procedures.

• Assigns priority for maintenance work

Requirements

Knowledge/Skills

• Understands the processes, systems, assets, resources, key personnel, and business functions for the plant

• Comprehensive knowledge of power plant systems and operations

• Demonstrated effective leadership and personnel management skills

• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment

• Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization

• Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals

• Ability to use a personal computer and standard business software

• Ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures

• Ability to read, write and understand English

• Detailed knowledge Of applicable safety and environmental regulations

Education/Experience

• Minimum Of 8 (eight) years Of experience in a related field: or a Baccalaureate degree in an Engineering, Business or related discipline from an accredited college or university and 4 (four) years Of experience in a related field

• Experience leading/supervising employees in a related field is desirable

• Knowledge of Combined Cycle Power Plant operations preferred

Working Conditions

• Power Plant/ Industrial environment

• Requires operation of a motor vehicle

• Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment

• Work overtime and non-standard working hours, including rotating shifts, as required

• Requires occasional travel outside service area

• Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)

• Required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals

• Requires operation of a personal computer

• Occasionally requires lifting up to 50 pounds as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
