We have a place for you to realize your potential on our team of professionals as an Instrumentation Technician III in the Pump Stations Branch of Wastewater Collections Division (WCD).

Key responsibilities:

  • Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs instrumentation such as flow ,level and pressure transmitters.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and programs Programmable Logic Controls (PLC's), Supervisory Control Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems and associated equipment used in automated process control.
  • Provides assistance to the instrumentation supervisor in coordinating the daily work activities and technical assessment of equipment and component failure.
  • Performs other related duties as required; utilize personal computers for online time and attendance, creating and processing work orders and requisitioning parts and materials.
  • Programs, manages and utilizes PLC and related software;
  • Reads and interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and manuals
  • Leads the work of trainee and journeyman instrumentation technicians.
  • Subject to 24-hour call back and must therefore be able to work emergency overtime and regular on call rotation.

Note: Wastewater Management positions are responsible for providing uninterrupted sewer service to residents during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies. This position is designated as emergency service and is subject to 24-hour on-call and may be required to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents to fulfill emergency service duties.

*A $2,500 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired in the Instrumentation Technician III position.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education; completion of a vocation course in electronics, and five years of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic/electrical equipment found in water or wastewater utilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completed training course in electronics - trade school or courses.
  • Instrument Society of America (ISA) certification (CCST) or other automated controls.
  • One (1) or more years of experience of the following:
    • Programming PLC's and other Logic Controllers.
    • Program operator interface terminals (OIT) associated with the PLC and Schneider Electric Control Expert and/ or Vijeo Designer software experience.
    • Troubleshooting Scada and Cellular communications issues used to remotely monitor connected pump stations.
    • Knowledge of open channel flow meters.
    • Analyzing wastewater SCADA for alarms and trends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate effectively both oral and in writing. Ability to operate county vehicles, to include 1/2-, 3/4- & 1-ton utility trucks or vans. Ability to work in a variety of work environments to include adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat and extreme cold, rain, snow etc., and noisy environments. Ability to work around and in contact with raw sewage; rare exposure to airborne substances. Ability to distinguish colors. Ability to properly operate hoisting equipment. Ability to stand, stoop, bend, reach, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crawl, lift and manipulate materials with manual dexterity, and work in strenuous and uncomfortable positions for long period of times. Ability to use hand tools and lift, carry and handle items weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, stooping, walking, and climbing to enter permitted confined spaces such as in and out of catch basins and manholes. Per safety requirements, confined spaces may not be entered by persons who weigh 310 lbs. or more. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
