POSITION SPECIFICS

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, independent, and self-starting DevOps Engineer to join our team in the Command, Control and Communications Innovations Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

You will:

  • Design and implement secure automation solutions for development, testing, and production environments
  • Manage continuous integration and delivery pipeline to maximize efficiency
  • Improving systems through updates and optimizations using various technologies
  • Present program overviews, proposals, and technical briefings at internal and external events
  • Coordinate with sponsors and team members to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project-level activity on a day to day basis
  • Ensure compliance with standards and requirements, including usability, accessibility, and security; monitor threats, alerts, and security vulnerabilities
  • Design, code, test, debug, document, and deploy applications
  • Create and maintain secure development environments
  • Run quality checks to ensure stability and efficiency for high-level performance
  • Maintain disaster recovery plans and support business continuity efforts, including monitoring and testing of backups
  • Collaborate with application developers, project managers, and service managers/owners to establish and improve processes and procedures such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment

Required skills/knowledge include:

  • Demonstrated understanding of general application development lifecycle for software analysis, design, and implementation in a test, acceptance, and production environment
  • Success in an environment where various forms of communication skills, especially with regard to protocol and processes with teams and management, were crucial to be effective
  • Strong experience with Linux-based infrastructures and Linux/Unix administration
  • Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python
  • Experience with version control software, such as Git
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues, preventing potential problems before they arise
  • Applications development from design to operations
  • Understanding of general application development lifecycle for software analysis, design, and implementation in a test, acceptance, and production environment
  • Update preferred areas to:
    • Atlassian products (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence)
    • Python
    • VMWare virtualization tools
    • GitLab

Preferred knowledge/skills include:

  • Working with Atlassian products (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence)
  • Working knowledge in Python
  • Familiarity with VMWare virtualization tools
  • Familiarity with GitLab

This position will be on-site in our Annapolis Junction, MD Office. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $76,700.00 - $115,100.00.**THE PROPOSED SALARY RANGE MAY BE IMPACTED BY GEOGRAPHIC DIFFERENTIAL**
