Energy Department

The Energy Department is dedicated to managing and optimizing the energy resources required to power our data centers while promoting sustainability and efficiency. The Energy department plays a critical role in ensuring our power solutions are cost-effective for our tenants, support speed to market, have sufficient scale to meet growing AI load, and resilient to energy market fluctuations. The team focuses on energy procurement from utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), energy marketers, and renewable energy technology providers.

Position Overview

This role is based in Denver, CO, following our flexible work policy (3 days in-office, 2 days flexible).

We are seeking a results-driven Manager to oversee the contracting of power for our data centers and ensuring the terms and conditions in our contracts for energy meet the needs of our investors, management and tenants.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as the primary negotiator for power purchase agreements (PPAs), utility contracts, and energy infrastructure agreements.

  • Strategy development and execution for energy contracting and cost management

  • Analysis of complex energy contracts and utility service agreements

  • Comprehensive due diligence and risk assessment

  • Financial modeling and commercial negotiation of power purchase agreements

  • Market intelligence and price forecasting to support executive decision-making

  • Collaboration with customers, Finance, Sales, Legal, and other internal and external partners.

Duties:

Contract Management

  • Analyze, negotiate and manage power purchase agreements (PPAs), retail energy supply agreements, and related commercial contracts to obtain power for our data centers

  • Develop robust power pricing strategies to ensure overall total cost of ownership (TCO) for our customers is competitive

Market and Price Forecasting

  • Maintain database of energy and capacity pricing across the US

  • Provide insights into energy cost drivers and future price expectations

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with sales, finance, legal, and sustainability, teams to align energy strategies with broader business needs.

  • Support new site development with energy market analysis and infrastructure planning.

Risk Management

  • Assess and mitigate risks related to energy price volatility, regulatory changes, and reliability.

  • Implement portfolio-level risk management strategies (e.g., hedging, demand response).

Regulatory & Market Intelligence

  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes, energy policy, and market dynamics in key geographies.

Additional duties as assigned by management

20-30% domestic travel for utility meetings, contract negotiations, site support, and industry engagement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, Economics, Energy Management, or related field; MBA or relevant master's preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in the power industry or related financial organizations

  • Strong understanding of wholesale and retail energy markets (e.g., ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, etc.).

  • Experience negotiating complex energy contracts, including PPAs, VPPAs, and green tariffs.

  • Excellent analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in energy market tools and platforms; familiarity with emissions accounting and sustainability reporting is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders across the organization.

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
