Major/Essential Functions


  • Maintains a close working relationship with student workers to plan, implement and supervise activites in the School of Music and in Collaboration with Buddy Holly Hall. Coordinates with faculty on planning for off-site concerts including the arrangement and provision of transport of the equipment including setup and take down. This includes performance at Buddy Holly Hall.
  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with various departments in the Physical Plant. Initiates work and project requests and ensures the buidling is maintained and visibly presentable to all. Provides quick responses to building repair issues. Also holds the various departments accountable for timely completion of various requests and projects. Responsible for the overall maintenance of the School of Music building.
  • Oversees and directs external maintenance personnel and workers and engages in equipment installation, facilites, equipment repair, and preventive maintenance.
  • Responsible for the overall inventory, staging, and maintenance of School of Music instruments.
  • Manages the checkout and returns of musical instruments.
  • Builds prefabricated furniture for the department, changes light bulbs, maintains instrument storage area, assists with moving furniture and pianos, repairs student lockers, and initiates pickup for surplus items.
  • Provides A/V support in classrooms as needed.
  • Procures supplies, equipment, and services necessary to carry out day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Proactively suggests improvement with the provision of detailed plans to better workplace facilities. Responds to faculty, staff, and student building and equipment needs by analyzing and resolving problems.
  • Supervising student assistants with projects in the building.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous building management experience preferred.
  • Successful experience in supervising others. Knowledge of music instrument types, care and standard maintenance.
  • Demonstrates willingness to work within an established organizational structures and organizational procedures, and policies.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgement in determining priorities and organizing operations.
  • Ability to stay clam under stressful situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt to change quickly.
  • Microsoft office experience preferred.

Occasional Duties


  • Serves EHS and Space Use committee. Ensures that the SoM action plan is kept up to date.
  • Monitor surveillance system and problem-solve when necessary. Instrumental in keeping University and personal property secure. Ensures the building is safe and secure for students, faculty, staff, and guests.
  • Provides after-hours on-call support for School of Music building needs and performance needs.
