Zone Mechanical North is seeking a HVAC Technician:

Scope of Responsibility:
The Commercial HVAC is responsible for servicing, installing, and maintaining HVAC systems for a diverse customer base. This position requires expertise in troubleshooting, customer service, and system maintenance, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Specific Duties/Accountabilities:

  • Travel to business locations daily as scheduled.
  • Perform consultations with customers to assess HVAC and refrigeration needs.
  • Discuss solution methods with customers and recommend services.
  • Install new heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.
  • Inspect current HVAC systems for safety and performance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems to increase system longevity.
  • Conduct performance tests using specialized tools.
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer appointments, payment transactions, and invoices.
  • Keep accurate inventory of all equipment and HVAC resources.
  • Ensure quality workmanship and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
  • Represent the company professionally and politely when interacting with customers.
  • Inform the service manager of any open work orders older than two weeks.
  • Communicate material and equipment needs to the Parts Department.
  • Notify the service manager of customer dissatisfaction or potential equipment issues.
  • Report any workplace injuries or potential issues involving employees (drug/alcohol use).
  • Provide training and development to entry-level helpers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience preferred in HVAC and refrigeration.
  • Certification through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to handle refrigerants is required.
  • Certification or an associate degree from an accredited HVAC program is required.
  • Previous on-the-job training is a plus.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex HVAC and refrigeration issues to customers in a clear, understandable manner.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must hold a valid state driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must be punctual and adhere to a daily schedule with multiple appointments in different locations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at high elevations.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform rotation on duty roster as required.
  • Ensure job costs are controlled (minimize un-billable hours and callbacks).
  • Maintain a clean and professional work appearance at all times.
  • Willingness to improve installation techniques, including brazing.
