Overview
LMI is looking for a Senior Lead Systems Engineer to support a federal program management office (PMO) responsible for planning, acquiring, and managing the operation of technology and capabilities to keep our borders safe and facilitate travel and trade. We are seeking an energetic self-starter who is focused on practical and efficient solutions delivered by a multi-dimensional collaborative team. An ideal candidate will have a good understanding of systems engineering, team leadership, program and project management, information technology, operational technology, and a high-level understanding of networking design and capabilities. Travel may be required once or twice a quarter to stations on the southwest and other borders, as needed. This is a full-time position located in the Washington, DC Metro area. Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of over 100 engineers and analysts in applying systems engineering best practices to support system design, system acquisition, sustainment, identify and mitigate risks, shape technical planning and management discussions, support and provide insight to stakeholders, and identify systemic issues.
- Develop and recommend resource- and time-saving strategies for transitioning concepts to implementation.
- Provide subject matter expertise in systems engineering, solution design, and technology decisions to support optimized system acquisition and sustainment.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure technical validity, operational feasibility, and operator suitability of solutions across multiple portfolios and programs.
- Coordinate inter-agency activities necessary to deploy communication solutions wherever customer programs operate.
- Oversee technical delivery of multiple, complex, and interrelated project tasks to ensure interoperability and effective data collection and sharing to maximize value to customers in the field and ensure high-level understanding of program/system effectiveness by leadership staff.
- Review project progress from an engineering perspective, measuring performance, and taking necessary corrective actions to maintain agreed upon requirements and effectively meet customer expectations.
- Travel to project sites at border locations once or twice a quarter to check the progress of work, ensure conformity with specifications and good practices, attend program management reviews, and contribute to technical integrated project teams, as needed.

Required Knowledge:
- Expertise in one or more engineering disciplines and an understanding across domains to ensure work can be integrated. The team will include skills in requirements analysis and development; software engineering; test and evaluation processes and activities; configuration management; enterprise architecture; communications, sensor and surveillance engineering; civil engineering; mechanical engineering; electrical engineering; information and operational technology; network design; data architecture and solution design.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, Outlook, TEAMS, and PowerPoint.
Required Experience:
- Ten years of experience leading large, multi-functional technical engineering support services teams for large, complex organizations.
- Experience organizing, directing, and managing technical support functions involving multiple, complex, and interrelated project tasks.
- Experience effectively communicating detailed technical concepts in a way that senior leadership can understand and make decisions on.
- Experience meeting with customer and contractor personnel to formulate, review, and execute technical requirements and engineering-related task plans, studies, analyses, reports, solution designs, and deliverable items.
Required Education and Certifications:
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
- International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE) certification (Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP)).
- Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level III Systems, Planning, Research, Development and Engineering (SPRDE) certification.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a CBP Background Investigation (BI) is required; active CBP BI preferred.
