Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Girls seeks an enthusiastic and creative full-time 6-8th Grade Physical Education Teacher with an innovative approach to content delivery and skills development. This individual will play a vital role in our engaging middle school physical education program, which cultivates curiosity and exploration.

Our program offers a dynamic learning environment that extends beyond the gymnasium, leveraging Cranbrook's unique campus to create relevant, place-based physical activities. We aim to inspire teamwork, physical fitness, and a lifelong love of sports and exercise through:



  • Active Participation: Engaging students in a variety of physical activities that promote health and fitness.
  • Skill Development: Focusing on the development of motor skills, coordination, and athletic abilities.
  • Teamwork and Sportsmanship: Encouraging collaboration, fair play, and respect among students.
  • Outdoor Activities: Utilizing Cranbrook's campus for outdoor sports and exercises, fostering an appreciation for nature and physical wellness.

As a full-time Middle School faculty member, the Physical Education Teacher will:



  • Teach 3 to 4 sections of physical science to grades 6, 7 and 8.
  • Facilitate student learning by building strong interpersonal relationships, setting a positive tone, and creating a sense of belonging and community among the students.
  • Serve as a student advisor to a group of students, meeting daily and providing guidance and support.
  • Advocating for students and nurturing their growth, assessing students' progress, partnering with parents, participating in grade level activities to build relationships and community and foster empathy and leadership, including an overnight interim.
  • Participate and collaborate in grade level teams, content teams, faculty meetings, and school assemblies.
  • Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school by leading an after-school club, sport or activity.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to create powerful learning experiences for a diverse student body.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to work in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
  • Engage in social emotional learning (SEL) initiatives.


Requirements:



  • A Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, or a related field is required.
  • A Master's degree and/or teaching certificate and teaching experience is preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and working with adolescents is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills are expected.
  • Experience with robotics, athletics, or other extracurricular programs is beneficial.
  • Requires a valid Michigan driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
