This Counsel role will be responsible for managing and developing case strategy, supervising and managing outside counsel and regularly reporting on litigation developments. The Counsel will have responsibility for managing all aspects of matters, from pre-litigation through trial and appeal. In addition, the Counsel will coordinate with business partners to provide litigation related advise and counsel to minimize risk and avoid future litigation. The matters involved range from demand letters, small claims cases, state and federal district court cases, and governmental agency investigations. The Counsel will be expected to collaborate with the various business groups across the company as well as with other functions such as Compliance and Regulatory. This role will report to the Assistant General Counsel - Head of Litigation.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist on a variety of pre-litigation and litigation matters as assigned by Assistant General Counsel
  • Provide day-to-day counseling and strategic legal advice to business partners on litigation and risk
  • Oversee all aspects of matter management in commercial litigation matters, including case strategy, selection and direction of outside counsel, investigation, discovery and budgeting
  • Advise business leaders on litigation strategy and provide regular updates to business and AGC regarding case status, budget, outcome potentials and appropriate financial reserve levels
  • Act as a liaison between internal business leaders and outside counsel on matters as assigned by AGC

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, technical ability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively, efficiently, and professionally manage multiple time-sensitive projects
  • Strong focus on problem-solving and business solutions
  • Ability to work independently and with a minimal amount of direction
  • Ability to successfully interact with others in the legal department and the company

Requirements:

  • Strong academic credentials, including Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school, and member of the bar of a U.S. jurisdiction
  • 6-8 years of litigation experience working at a law firm
  • Experience handling litigation matters covering commercial contract disputes, personal injury, intellectual property, trade secrets, and bankruptcy.
