Graduate Research Associate to pursue education and training in research techniques and procedures in the Department of Internal Medicine; performs experimental and translation research; prepares for thesis and dissertation; executes molecular and cell biology related analytical procedures; maintains laboratory notebook and methodical data documentation; logs in and analyzes research data; supports data plotting and presentation; maintains laboratory; works under the close supervision of research scientists and laboratory director; monitors laboratory safety. PhD required in biological sciences, health sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; research experience desired; Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen. This position would provide research support for the laboratory of Dr. Jordi Torrelles, Director of Integrated Research for the Division of Infectious Diseases; This individual would perform translational and field research in infectious and related chronic diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine/College of Medicine. The research program will study components of the human lung mucosa, in particular alveolar lining fluid components (surfactant proteins and lipids, hydrolases, complement components, etc.), in determining the interaction of respiratory microbes with host cells in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo, and their impact on the outcome of infection. They would assist with project design and troubleshooting; they would assist with data analysis and would collaborate in the preparation of publications; they would prepare research progress reports and give oral presentations of research progress and summarize data for publications and grant proposals; they would maintain accurate records, assist with general laboratory maintenance and attend research meetings. |
