Description

Looking for an opportunity chalk-full of fun and great experiences? The Erie Community Center is currently hiring Climbing Wall Instructors!

As a Climbing Wall Instructor, you will perform a variety of duties associated with instructing or leading recreation programs related to the climbing wall that may include but is not limited to:



  • program instruction
  • supervised climbing
  • belay instruction
  • climbing wall parties

Hiring Range:



$19.83/hr - $22.31/hr



Full Range:



$19.83/hr - $24.79/hr





ANTICIPATED WORK SCHEDULE:

Part-time to include evenings and weekends as needed. Schedule may vary depending on program specific needs.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Duties



  • Performs a variety of duties associated with instructing or leading recreation programs related to the climbing wall. Includes demonstrating, instructing, and actively supervising participants during lessons, classes, activities, parties and events.
  • Provides a safe, effective, and supportive learning environment for diverse participants with varying skill levels.
  • Assist with general maintenance and safety inspection of the climbing wall.
  • Recommends necessary equipment and supply purchases to supervisor.
  • Stays abreast of latest trends and techniques, evaluates class effectiveness, and recommends new classes or techniques
  • Creates lesson plans, class curriculum, and conducts individualized or group instruction in areas of expertise.
  • Ensures participants are performing activities correctly and safely.
  • Uses knowledge and expertise to modify class activities for various participant skill levels.
  • Sets up and takes down required program equipment.



Administrative Duties



  • Maintains program related records and reports, including accurate class attendance records.
  • Provides exceptional guest service to all participants. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from participants or families
  • Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings.
  • May be considered as a subject expert for area of specialization and may train other staff on specific knowledge.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Two years of climbing experience preferred.
  • Customer service or instruction experience preferred.


CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS



  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within 3 months of hire
  • Belay Certification required for Climbing Wall, can obtain through the Town of Erie

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate leadership and communication skills and must possess knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required.

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; supervision, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; handling controversial issues; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed in a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands and performing multiple tasks.

Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes and climbing equipment of 20lbs or more. Staff are also required to safely belay participants ranging in height and weight.
