The department of Facility Operations within Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Coliseum Complex Zone Lead. About the Opportunity This position will provide necessary maintenance while performing carpentry, concrete, masonry work, welding, power tool and equipment operation along with performing preventative and general maintenance for all Athletic facilities and areas. What You'll Do
- Performs mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry repairs as the situation requires. Assists shop personnel with emergency repairs when necessary.
- Function as a team leader, providing guidance to journeyman trade workers and other support staff as required. Follows procedures and makes work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew to ensure proper quality and quantity and that work is completed in a timely fashion. Inspects completed work assignments of journeyman, craft workers, trade workers, and helpers to ensure quality control. Ensures proper safety procedures are used while performing job duties.
- Direct, in absence of the immediate supervisor, the maintenance and upkeep of buildings and equipment of all Athletic facilities including all mechanical systems, electrical systems, including kitchen areas.
- Receive work orders and interfaces with Athletic Facilities office, Maintenance Supervisor and/or Athletic Facilities staff, to review and completed project scopes. Assist Managers and Associates with multi-craft projects related to overall work assignments. Communicate work schedules to trade workers, helpers creating efficiency and timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Provide continual inspection of assigned area to ensure maintenance is completed on schedule; recommends major report needs; assists in developing, updating deferred maintenance.
- Work with other Athletic Department and WVU Facilities Management staff and outside contractors as needed on various upgrade, repair, renovation and major repairs projects.
- Read and review blueprints, O&M manuals, etc. for new and existing building projects for repair or construction associated with specific job duties and expertise. Individual will also develop as-built sketches of completed in-house projects.
- Maintain knowledge of state, federal, and local codes and requirements pertaining to maintenance and construction. Individual will attend project meetings and interact with contractors, vendors and engineers as needed.
- Determine and recommend the needs of the project in regard to crew size, types of crafts, material availability, equipment, and paperwork, safety checks to maintain proper work and material flow in order to maintain schedule. Recommend hiring of temporary seasonal staff and event setup staffing requirements as needed.
- Provide daily or weekly reports as needed or required for progress on projects (repair or new work). Maintains the original scope of project to ensure project cost control. Report discipline and performance problems. Ensure the work group processes all work requests, material requisitions, weekly reports and invoices necessary to complete assignments.
- Respond when calling during off hours to cover emergency situations.
- Provide direction to Athletic maintenance staff and contracted service providers on game days for Coliseum events.
- Operate computers utilizing various software programs, such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Develop requisitions and procure parts, supplies, tools, etc. from vendors and ensures timely delivery.
- Interpret blueprints and specifications; shall requisition parts, materials, and supplies for projects and repairs as assigned. Will be responsible for tools and equipment used in the performance of job-related duties. Shall leave work areas in a neat and orderly manner. Job duties are not to be considered as specific as to exclude any work which may cross tasks or other assigned duties.
- Repair/maintain metal stud/wood stud wall systems, ceiling systems, entry doors systems, doors, and windows.
- Repair, maintain, and install suspended ceiling systems.
- Perform/construct and design carpentry projects, finish carpentry and trim work.
- Repair, maintain, and install seating and bleacher systems.
- Maintain and repair retaining wall systems, fence systems, gates, and railing systems.
- Operate hand tools and power equipment such as power saw, brazing equipment, air compressor, and various other power hand tools.
- Operate scissor lift, bucket truck, hydraulic lift to maintain and troubleshoot fixtures and devices.
- Perform game event set-up support for all home athletic events, including events outside normal work hours.
- Perform general upkeep of maintenance shop and other assigned departmental storage areas.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Associate Athletic Director for Facilities/Operations.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA; must adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.

- Faithfully and diligently execute related duties of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, as requested or assigned by Supervisor and/or Associate Athletic Director for Facilities/Operations.
Pay Grade: 15
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Must have one of the following: 1) 2 years in general trades, building maintenance experience 2) Completion of an associates degree in building maintenance or other craft trade 3) completion of a 2 year accredited vocational craft trades program
- One year experience leading and or training others.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

- Requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Frequent handling of objects weighing 25 pounds and occasionally lifting weighing 75 pounds.
