Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in providing leadership for a
NCAA Division I Cross Country / Track & Field Program. Assists with all aspects of the program and plays an integral part in the day-to-day student-athlete coaching support, administrative responsibilities, daily team training, evaluation and recruitment of student-athletes, academic monitoring, and skill development. This position must work within
UNCW,
CAA, and
NCAA guidelines to provide student-athletes an exceptional collegiate experience while competing for championships.
- Assists the Head Coach in providing leadership for a NCAA Division I Cross Country / Track & Field Program along with the overall coaching, management, and administration of the program, primary working with cross country and distance athletes.
- Teach the mental and physical aspects of the training and racing while preparing student-athletes for life after intercollegiate sports.
- Assist with meet management of UNCW's home cross country meet and home track & field meet.
- Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department and university as well as the rules and regulations of the CAA and NCAA.
- Oversee communication of the cross country and distance athletes with support staff.
- Travel Coordination: Helping organize and manage travel arrangements to Cross Country competitions, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectivness in logistics. Help with team itineraries, meals, practice schedules and other related requirements for travel.
- Track countable athletic related activities through ARMS online system.
- Assist with team community service events and assist with team fundraising.
- Participate in University, civic, and public relations activities for promotion of the sport.
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- Bachelors Degree
- Must be highly dependable, flexible, and available to work evenings and weekends
- Possess excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with the public
- Strong problem solving skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time both indoors and outdoors
- Work effectively as a team member
