Job Objective:
The Lead Technician - Prudhoe Bay Hazardous Waste Processing Facility (HWPF) is part of the Hilcorp North Slope, LLC Prudhoe Bay (PB) Environmental Team and is responsible for providing day-to-day oversight and management of hazardous and solid waste throughout PB. The PB HWPF is a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Transportation, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF)-permitted facility and a Large Quantity Generator. The Lead Technician primarily focuses on oversight of the HWPF and Solid Waste Site (SWS), makes waste determinations, properly stores and accounts for waste generation and disposal in accordance with regulations, packages and transports hazardous waste in accordance with US Dept of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials (HAZMAT) regulations, and provides instruction and guidance on waste issues to Hilcorp employees and contractors. Facilitates relationships with Drilling, Operations and Projects staff in the field. Helps develop and promote environmental management systems, policies, procedures, and programs. Promotes Environmental Stewardship throughout the company.
Essential Job Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Oversight of the HWPF:
- Daily operation of RCRA TSDF with logging in, processing and packaging of waste,
- Samples waste and interprets laboratory data,
- Maintains waste databases and documentation pertinent to regulatory compliance,
- Properly packages and manifests hazardous waste from the HWPF,
- Arranges for transportation of hazardous wastes, and
- Tracks hazardous waste to its disposal in accordance with RCRA regulations.
- Oversight of the SWS, which consists of two contractor positions (4 people, 2/2 shift) who manage various waste dumpsters. The Lead Technician is responsible for:
- Providing a direct link between the Regional Environmental Team Manager and the SWS staff,
- Relaying daily work direction and task oversight, and
- Answering questions and providing regulatory guidance.
- Interface with Operations, Drilling and Projects as necessary to coordinate proper waste disposal and environmental review.
- Provide support during external agency and internal audits and inspections.
- Participate with and assist the field-based environmental specialists on compliance-related issues as they arise.
- Provide operational control development, review and verification; task system updates; procedure review, etc.
- Provide oversight to / assist with environmental records documentation control.
- Assists in maintaining the company's environmental files and programs. Implements and maintains company signage program for regulatory compliance.

- Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.
- Operate a forklift, pneumatic machinery, and various hand tools within the HWPF.
Other Job Responsibilities:
- 100% North Slope, Alaska-based, 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotational position.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Ten (10) years' experience dealing with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations and waste management issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials.
- Able to physically move a full 55-gallon drum using a drum dolly in and out of a truck.
- Must be able to withstand temperature extremes of heat/cold while working in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during normal job duties.
- Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
Education Requirements:
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Required: Valid Driver's License

- Current 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification
- Current Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Certification

- Current North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Certification
