Medical Assistant/Scribe - Breast Surgery

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute is looking to add a Certified Medical Assistant to its team in Springfield, Oregon. As part of the Breast Surgical department, this MA will be instrumental in managing provider chart prep, incoming calls and communications, assist with orders and prescription refills, and supporting the team with daily assigned tasks. Ideal for an MA looking to take their practice to the next level, this position will be part of a collaborative team of clinical professionals helping our patients navigate their various treatments. A strong foundation of Medical Assisting experience, especially with experience in prescription workflow SOPs, will find the most success in this role.

The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is $20.00-$29.54. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Performs chart prep of new patient information into appropriate progress notes in EMR.
  • Updates the problem list as applicable to visit.
  • Transcribes procedure notes per physician preference.
  • Navigates the electronic medical record, PACS, and hospital portals.
  • Updates electronic record at direction of physician.
  • Assists physicians with procedures as requested.
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Processes, sends and follows up on imaging, genetic testing and misc. orders.
  • Attains insurance prior authorization for medication and consult referrals.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed. Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Computer proficiency: Microsoft applications, EHR systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum one (1) year applicable experience or graduate from a Scribe training program (preferred, but not required)
  • Typing proficiency required: 60 word per minute desirable.
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants
  • NCMA certification preferred
