Summary:

The Sales & Use Tax Experienced Senior Associate plays a key role in delivering high-quality service to clients and supporting the growth of our State & Local Tax practice. This position focuses on preparing and reviewing sales and use tax nexus analyses, supporting workpapers, and compliance filings, while guiding associates and contributing technical knowledge. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset are essential. Commitment to client service and clear communication will ensure success in this role.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in advising clients on sales and use tax implications relevant to their business and industry
  • Prepare sales tax nexus analyses for multi-state businesses and review analyses prepared by other team members
  • Prepare accurate, well-organized workpapers and deliverables by analyzing complex data in Microsoft Excel and Access, ensuring results are clear and easy for clients to follow
  • Prepare and review sales and use tax workpapers, returns, and related documentation for multi-state businesses
  • Proactively monitor client sales and use tax return deadlines as well as other similar tax deadlines
  • Support clients with state and local sales and use tax audits
  • Review work prepared by associates and provide coaching and feedback to help develop their skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required
  • Master's degree in accounting, taxation or related field preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of indirect tax experience including preparing/reviewing multi-state sales tax returns, preparing VDAs, audit defense, and evaluating multi-state sales tax nexus required
  • CPA licensed, EA, Sales Tax CMI (through IPT), or equivalent certification or is actively pursuing one of the listed certifications preferred
  • Experience with gross receipt taxes for various state and local jurisdictions preferred
  • Experience with business personal property taxes for various states/counties preferred
  • Solid sales tax technical knowledge, with strong analytical, tax research, and critical thinking, skills
  • Exhibit strong professional judgment by independently resolving issues, asking appropriate questions, and timely bringing issues to manager's attention
  • Ability to conduct thorough tax research and prepare clear, well-cited client responses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to demonstrate strong project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to supervise, train, and mentor associates
  • Ability to communicate with clients effectively and build client relationships
  • Capable of evaluating complex sales tax issues and developing practical solutions
  • Commitment to continuously developing technical and industry knowledge
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Compensation Range: $78,000.00 - $131,000.00*
