Position Summary

Antora is seeking a Commissioning Leader to execute our first grid-connected thermal energy storage (TES) power plant and to establish a scalable model for future commissioning activities. You will be instrumental in achieving Antora's company-level goal of deploying 150+ MW of zero-emissions industrial energy capacity in 2026. As the driving force behind our project's commissioning success, you will lead cross-functional teams, embed a culture of safety and technical rigor, and develop the repeatable systems and practices that allow Projects 2-5 to be delivered faster, safer, and more cost-effectively.



  • You bring expert-level commissioning experience in complex industrial or power plant systems, a track record of operational leadership, and a drive to build systems that scale. Your work will directly shape Antora's ability to deliver on its climate mission.



Roles & Responsibilities


  • Lead the commissioning effort for Antora's first operational Thermal Energy Storage plant (located in South Dakota), from mechanical completion through performance testing and COD.
  • Drive successful bring-up of critical plant subsystems, including an Electrode-Boiler, transformers, switchgear, fluid process equipment, and Antora's thermal batteries.
  • Develop and manage detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and workflows in alignment with broader project timelines and objectives across multiple teams
  • Hire and mentor Field Commissioning Engineers and grow the commissioning team as needed.
  • Staff internal and external stakeholders for timely completion of all commissioning activities.
  • Create and implement standard operating procedures and safe work practices for all commissioning operations including development of an Emergency Response Plan
  • Capture lessons learned from to establish a scalable commissioning playbook for Projects 2-5.
  • Establish a scalable field commissioning model to support Antora's multi-site deployment roadmap, including future field operations org design and operating model decisions.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving and process improvement opportunities during and post-commissioning.



Key Qualifications


  • Recognized as a leader in industrial or utility-scale plant commissioning, with deep experience across the full lifecycle from pre-commissioning to COD.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams including engineering, contractors, and EPC partners through technically complex projects.
  • Proven experience creating and enforcing safety programs and leading safety investigations.
  • Deep knowledge of control systems, automation, plant operations, and industry codes and standards.
  • Track record of resolving the most difficult commissioning and operational challenges through root cause analysis and systems thinking.
  • Capable of aligning stakeholders, managing risk, and communicating clearly across technical and non-technical audiences.



Additional Qualifications Desired


  • Experience with FOAK (first-of-a-kind) technologies or startup-scale industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with commissioning digital tools, dashboards, or workflow automation.
  • PE license or equivalent technical certifications.
  • Background in scaling field operations or commissioning programs across multiple project sites.
  • High comfort working in dynamic, mission-driven environments with significant autonomy.



Work Location: Onsite - Big Stone, South Dakota

Salary Range: $155,000 USD - $190,000 USD

Salary Basis: Annual

Please note that the salary range listed above reflects Antora Energy's estimated pay for this position. The actual salary offered will be within the posted range and determined based on several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experiences, credentials and expertise, as they pertain to the position's requirements.
