This position requires to be working in office, 3 days per week, from our Bala Cynwyd, PA office. Position Summary The Director of Inventory Accounting is a hands-on role leading the company's inventory accounting including costs. This position is the business owner responsible for the integrity of the Stock Ledger and related systems and processes. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements related to merchandise inventories and cost of sales. This position also assigns monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes and control activities including financial statement review, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and audit requests. The Director of Inventory Accounting serves as a proactive business partner, providing timely, insightful analysis in support of business needs. Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead company-wide inventory accounting including development of policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely month-end reporting for multiple retail locations and distribution centers.
- Continuously monitor departmental processes against industry best practices, perform appropriate benchmarking, implement process improvements and identify and control enhancements.
- Manage period-end closing activities including internal management reporting and analysis.
- Execute internal control activities and providing deficiency-free function Sarbanes-Oxley controls.
- Work with Operations, IT, and Loss Prevention to support accounting controls and analyze results.
- Provide robust inventory and gross margin reporting and analysis.
- Ensure accuracy of Stock Ledger and perpetual records.
- Act as subject matter expert relative to inventory systems and related general ledger accounts.
- Oversight of the quarterly LIFO calculation and review of the detailed schedules supporting the LIFO reserve.
- Ensure team development and ensure adequate cross-training and deployment of resources.
- Identify and champion improvements around inventory accounting process.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor degree in Accounting is required.
- CPA preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in inventory accounting is required.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership including professional staff supervision and development is required.
- Public company experiences is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of LIFO Inventory Method is required.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP pertaining to sales, inventory and gross profit is required.
- Inventory systems expertise including requirements definition, implementation and maintenance of interfaces to general ledger as well as a working knowledge of invoice 3-way match procedure is required.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to all levels of management is required.
- Proficiency with SAP financial system.
- Able to provide insightful analysis and presentations as a strong business partner.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-driven and dynamic business environment.
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly motivated and takes ownership of projects and tasks.
