Job Summary

The Community Engagement and Government Affairs Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategies to foster positive relationships with local communities, government officials, regulatory bodies and other key stakeholders. This role combines community engagement and sponsorship with government affairs to promote Monument Health's initiatives and advance community health goals. The position requires a strong ability to represent the organization in various forms and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align with the organization's mission and goals.

This position requires close communication with leadership, collaboration with administration, internal departments, and Rapid City community leadership. In addition, the position requires working successfully with representatives from various communities and organizations with respect to the diverse populations and cultures they serve. This position strives to achieve fulfillment of the community stewardship priority to the greatest extent practicable of supporting Monument Health's purpose.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with community organizations, civic leaders and stakeholders to promote the health care system's mission and enhance its visibility and reputation.
  • Identify opportunities for community engagement by assessing local needs and collaboration potential.
  • Identify major community events where Monument Health should have representation and manage the presence and engagement for the organization.
  • Identify community boards where Monument Health should be represented. Align leaders to these boards to build deep relationships/connections within key organizations in our community.
  • Develop the annual sponsorship strategy to include specific sponsorship criteria and application processes.
  • Chair the Monument Health community sponsorship committee to vet potential sponsorships along with calculated impact.
  • Serve on the Monument Health sports charter committee to develop orthopedics and sports medicine sponsorship strategy, vet potential sponsorships along with calculated impact.
  • Manage approved sponsorships to ensure that we achieve the maximum benefit. Track and report on the impact of our sponsorship and community involvement efforts.
  • Support Monument Health's system strategic priority of Impacting Our Communities.

Government Affairs:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key policymakers, government agencies and industry associations.
  • Assist in tracking local, state, and federal legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the health care system.
  • Stay informed about policy changes, funding opportunities, and health-related laws.
  • Work with industry associations, public health organizations, and other groups to advance health care policy goals. Engage in coalition-building efforts to achieve common objectives.
  • Prepare reports and policy briefs for leadership on key public policy issues, legislative proposals, and government regulations that could impact the health care system.

Strategic Planning and Reporting:

  • Work closely with leadership to align community engagement and government affairs strategies with the healthcare system's mission, vision and business objectives.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of community engagement and government affairs programs. Provide regular updates to leadership on the impact.
  • Assist in managing internal and external communications in relations to community engagement and government affairs in collaboration with the strategic marketing and communications department.
  • Maintain databases of contacts, sponsorships, government affairs activities and community engagement opportunities.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:
Education - Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations or related field.

Preferred:
Experience - 5+ years Marketing/Communications Experience, 3+ years Business Development Experience

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
