SUMMARY:

The Commercial Operations team is composed of DIU team members who are responsible for commercial strategy (including delivering the right experiential product for acquisitions), outreach (business development and marketing), general relationship management, and market intelligence. The Government Financing Lead will provide support to DIU's portfolio companies, across its technology priority areas,
by establishing and maintaining relationships & gathering intelligence from government entities that award either non-dilutive financing or large-scale procurement contracts to companies in the defense sector. It will be necessary to understand and maintain a record of the priorities, funding thresholds, timescales, technology requirements, and other conditions related to the award of funds/contracts
from federal entities. This role will also work closely with the DIU's Technology Portfolio Directors & members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Curating, developing a database for, and sharing the above information with DIU's personnel and vendors in a consistent and timely manner.
* Generating deep market analysis on government needs across multiple DOD priorities and programs of record.
* Facilitating introductions with agencies and associated individuals who support/finance growth of companies/capacity in DIU verticals.
* Assisting DIU vendor companies with navigating the intricacies of securing awards and contracts from non-DIU government financing/procurement sources.
* Assisting DIU Technology Portfolio Directors in determining whether complimentary funding sources exist for their projects and portfolio companies.
* Determining methods of combining DIU's projects and activities with other government bodies supporting innovation or purchasing innovation outputs.
* Sharing unclassified information on public or non-dilutive financing sources with organizations either financing or otherwise supporting the growth and development of companies with relevance to the DIU's technology priority areas.
* Working with other professionals within the DIU (who engage with universities, national labs, or organizations who develop technology, train individuals, or provide specialist services to companies in the defense sector) to foster knowledge related to programs and funding sources relevant to their stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS:

* A minimum of five years of experience working with companies to access funding from government sources. This can be in the form of grant programs, or loans guarantee programs, SBIR programs, or other direct buyer/seller business development activities between companies and multiple government entities.
* Examples of prior duties can include: grant writing, business development with government entities, non-dilutive fundraising, financial diligence/underwriting, grant evaluation, buy-side and contracting duties in work for the federal government, vendor relationship or success management for federal programs of record.
* Work history within technology/innovation evaluation, purchase, and/or integration functions for large organizations. Roles involving the evaluation of external innovations/technologies/tools, for matches large organizational
priorities or needs.
* A demonstrated understanding of the intricacies of building and deploying complex hardware and software solutions.
* Interest in both advancing national security and personal growth.

Preferred Qualifications:

* A minimum of five years of experience within high tech environments, preferably assessing technological capabilities, needs, and gaps, either for or within the federal government.
* Experience in technology adoption and integration, and/or change management.
* History with either receiving or distributing awards for non-dilutive capital related to the DoD or its priorities.
* Prior Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition experience (i.e. program management) is a plus.
* Experience with multiple government methodologies for supporting the technology verticals that the DIU prioritizes.
* Thorough understanding of government culture and operations, especially in the defense sector or companies that sell to the defense sector.
* Executive leadership experience is a plus.
* Prior military, intelligence community (IC), or USG experience is a plus.

This position may require occasional travel. The role involves working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with government, military, and commercial partners.

The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
