Job Summary:
The HR Specialist supports key HR operations, including payroll processing, benefits administration, leave coordination, and HRIS maintenance. This role serves as the first point of contact for employee inquiries related to benefits, leave of absence, and payroll, ensuring timely and accurate responses. The HR Specialist also supports internal audits and compliance activities, maintains accurate records in the HRIS, and provides general administrative support across HR functions.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
* Processes weekly payroll while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
* Responds to routine and non-routine inquiries from employees and managers regarding payroll, benefits, and the HRIS.
* Serves as the first point of contact for leave-related matters, including FMLA, short-term disability, and ADA. Responds to routine employee inquiries, assists with claim initiation, and coordinates with third-party vendors; escalates complex issues or accommodation requests as appropriate.
* Supports the benefits administration process, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and Open Enrollment.
* Supports internal audits, 401(k) administration, and compliance activities to ensure accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.
* Conducts benefit audits on a monthly or annual basis as needed and as required.
* Reconciles monthly benefit invoices and conducts required benefit audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Assists with new hire orientation and I-9 processing to ensure timely onboarding.
* Serves as a backup for the HR Coordinator during high-volume periods or absences.
* Monitors and routes incoming HR mail appropriately.

Qualifications:
* Associates degree in Business or another related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
* Two years of experience processing exempt and non-exempt payroll required.
* Two years of experience supporting or working in a Human Resources department required.
* Intermediate skills in Excel required.
* Experience using UKG in a system administration capacity is preferred.
