We are looking for a Laboratory Director - Chemistry in 3600 Eagle Nest Dr, North Building, Crete, IL 60417 USA. Your mission will be to:
The incumbent provides leadership and establishes policies, procedures and goals related to technical/scientific leadership, operational excellence, quality systems improvement, innovation, and method development within the Chemistry Department. The incumbent provides technical direction to laboratory management to ensure that laboratory technical, quality and operating systems are performing at or above the established goals. The incumbent provides technical consulting to clients and corporate functions such as Sales, Customer Care, Product Management and others as appropriate. The incumbent plays a leading role in improving customer perception of Merieux's scientific leadership and maintaining a consistent culture of scientific integrity throughout the organization.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced lab environment, enjoys building teams, and knows their way around both a spreadsheet and a mass spectrometer.
Leadership of the entire Chemistry Department
Building and creating a high performance team
Identifying and implementing efficiency and productivity improvements
Identifying, meeting, and addressing key metrics for the Chemistry Department
Talent development
Ensures adherence to defined protocols and SOPs
Ensure safety policies are followed
Support Sales and Customer Care as technical expert
Working with other functions such as Product Management and Research to add new methods in fast and error free fashion
Continually optimize testing operations to meet customer expectations on speed and quality
Collaborate with LD on selection, optimization and justification of equipment and all other analytical resources
Provide technical direction and supervision to laboratory personnel. Interact with other departments (sales, customer care, other location heads).
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential to this position for effective customer contact. Customer relation skills are needed to obtain and provide information to the customer.
YOUR PROFILE
Education: Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related field.
Experience: 10+ years in a chemistry laboratory setting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Demonstrated success managing high-volume laboratory operations in a regulated environment. Strong operational understanding of key analytical instrumentation (HPLC, LCMS, GCMS, GC, ICPMS, etc.)
Business Acumen: Demonstrated success managing a P&L or departmental budget with direct financial oversight responsibility including, budgeting, cost analysis, and Capital expenditure creation.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and retain highly technical teams. Excellent people leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of food chemistry testing methodologies, 3rd party testing, regulatory requirements, and quality systems.
Communication Skills: Advanced ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both scientific and non-technical audiences.
Compensation Range:
$145,000 - $155,000
Potential bonus: Up to 15% based on performance.
