The primary responsibility of this role is to perform product and process development in the film and sheet processing of the Specialty Films subdivision.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Develop modified and new grades of TPU, polycarbonate, and multilayer film and sheet products
  • Develop multi-layer and cast-on-carrier products
  • Lead key development projects
  • Support projects that require capital investments
  • Explore and assess polymer chemistries new to Covestro
  • Provide Technical Service to our Customer Base
  • Document and report progress of the product development programs;
  • Provide technical advice to vendor selection
  • Collaborate with Specialty Films technical staff globally
  • Provide leadership and support to local plant operations for upgrades and new processing technologies

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma with 14+ years of professional experience relevant to the Major Tasks & Responsibilities of the position; OR Associate's degree in an engineering or related technical discipline with 9+ years of relevant professional experience; OR Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with 6+ years of relevant professional experience; OR Master's degree in an engineering discipline with 4 years of relevant professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in chemical engineering or plastics engineering
  • Specific experience with manufacturing or development of plastic films, including thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), polycarbonate (PC), or similar
  • Specific familiarity with DOE software such as JMP or Minitab

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to translate development activities into commercially viable technologies and products
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence others
  • Proven track record of project management and cross-functional project team leadership
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
