Responsibilities

The Milieu Therapist plays a crucial role in providing therapeutic support within a clinical setting. Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, the Milieu Therapist is responsible for conducting assessments, managing crises, facilitating therapeutic groups, and providing individual sessions as needed. This position requires a compassionate approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a treatment team to ensure the well-being of clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct Assessments:

    • Perform initial risk assessments for new admissions and conduct re-assessments as necessary to monitor client progress and needs.
  2. Crisis Management:

    • De-escalate crises within the milieu by utilizing effective crisis management techniques.
    • Collaborate with external resources, such as on-call support, to ensure client safety and stability.
  3. Peer Interaction:

    • Address and mediate peer issues within the community to foster a supportive and therapeutic environment.
  4. Communication:

    • Maintain open communication with each resident's treatment team to ensure continuity of care and effective treatment planning.
  5. Individual Support:

    • Meet with clients who are at risk or struggling, providing immediate support and intervention as needed.
  6. Group Facilitation:

    • Facilitate clinical groups, encouraging participation and engagement among residents to promote therapeutic growth.
  7. Program Development:

    • Collaborate with the Program Director and/or Clinical Director on program development initiatives, including scheduling and coordinating evening services for the clinical program.
  8. Documentation:

    • Ensure the timely completion of all clinical documentation, including assessments, progress notes, and group notes, in accordance with organizational policies.
  9. Therapist Coverage:

    • In the absence of a therapist, provide individual and group therapy sessions to maintain continuity of care for clients.
  10. Supervision and Training:

    • Attend weekly clinical supervision sessions to discuss cases, receive feedback, and enhance clinical skills.
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited or state approved graduate school required.
  • Board registered (APCC, LAPC, ASW, AMFT, MHCA) in the state in which services are provided required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with adolescents or young adults in a mental health or substance abuse setting required.
