Logistics Broker - Merriam, KS

We have an exciting Logistics Broker opportunity in our Merriam, KS office. The Logistics Broker is responsible for developing our carrier base and growing our customers' revenue. Identifying strategic sales efforts through divisional cross-selling opportunities, with the ability to close/grow major customer/carrier accounts. The Logistics Broker would also assume responsibility for maintaining our customer service record for on time delivery and managing any cargo claims. This individual would be required to ensure that protocols are followed regarding current insurance certs being on file and no carriers with subpar Safestat (CSA) scores are tendered freight.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Vet and build a carrier base to haul available loads.
• Solicit existing customers to secure and grow a customer base.
• Maintain carrier files- Safestat scores, insurance certificates and broker contracts.
• Negotiate the rate to pay carrier and ensure adequate margins.
• Enter loads in the TMS system, Powerpro.
• Make necessary appointments for pickups and deliveries.
• Monitor loads in progress, verify pickups and deliveries, ensure clean bills.
• Review submitted paperwork, confirm rate billed with load confirmation and approve for payment.
• Grow revenues and monitor profit margins through customers.
• Must be available around the clock to handle operational problems as they arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• 5+ years of experience in the transportation industry
• 3+ years of experience as a transportation logistics broker
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to resolve and overcome issues and problems to meet objectives
• Self-motivated and able to work effectively on your own

Preferred:

• Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
• Current knowledge of the transportation industry rates with regards to lanes and various segments of transportation industry
• Existing carrier and customer-based experience

SCHEDULE

• The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. After-hours, weekly on-call rotation and overnight travel as requested.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Primarily an office environment with some need to work in the field.
• The noise level in the work environment is dependent on which environment you are in.
