Job Summary:

The Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) is seeking a full-time, in-person faculty position at the instructor rank. This teaching-focused role supports the delivery and development of programming, machine learning, optimization, data science, and applied technology instruction for PharmD, PhD students and faculty. The position offers a unique opportunity to shape innovative educational experiences at the intersection of pharmacy, technology, and digital fluency. In addition to core instructional duties, the faculty member will be assigned a temporary, stipend-based service role as AI Director. In this capacity, they will support strategic integration of artificial intelligence into SSPPS mission areas: education, research, and operations, collaborating with stakeholders to identify impactful applications and ensure ethical use. The AI Director role is a limited-term and intended to guide AI initiatives while long-term needs are evaluated. Key Responsibilities: Instructor (60%)
- Teach courses focused on applied AI technology for PharmD and graduate-level students, and faculty.
- Introductory and intermediate programming (e.g., Python)
- Data wrangling, data quality, and visualization
- Introduction to machine learning and practical applications
- Introduction to ML and medicinal chemistry
- Practical introduction to ethical AI
- Data ethics, digital security and compliance
- Data management and data governance
- Health or research informatics
- Critical Thinking and the use of LLMs
- Develop instructional materials, assessments, and hands-on learning experiences to support digital skill development.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate computing and data skills into pharmacy curricula.
- Contribute to course design, learning outcome development, and educational innovation aligned with SSPPS goals.
- Participate in School and University committees as assigned.
- Provide mentorship or support for students applying technology in research, practice, or scholarship.
AI Director (40%)
- Develop and implement strategies and best practices for incorporating AI into SSPPS mission areas, curricula, research projects, and administrative processes.
- Serve as representative of the SSPPS on the AI Council.
- Partner with leaders across the SSPPS to identify high-impact opportunities.
- Partner with AMC AI representatives to share and leverage resources, best practices, and policies
- Assist in creating guidelines and policies to ensure ethical and effective use of AI within the SSPPS.
- Regularly report to the Dean on AI initiatives, progress, and outcomes.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings or teaching needs.

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Candidates must have at least a doctoral degree/Ph.D. in Computational Engineering Discipline, Computational Physics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science or related field.
- Experience in higher-education or similarly complex, regulated industries.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in teaching or developing instructional content in technical or applied technology fields.
- Experience developing Enterprise-class AI strategies, managing AI Roadmaps and AI Implementation, and building and managing AI products.
- Experience leveraging Microsoft 365's AI features (i.e., Microsoft Copilot) to enhance productivity, automate workflows, and deliver AI-driven insights.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with academic program development or interdisciplinary education.
- Ability to teach or tutor learners at varied skill levels.
- Familiarity with ethical considerations and policy development related to AI.
- Ability to write grants and secure funding for technology initiatives.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively across various departments and with external partners
- Unwavering respect for persons, including the ability to recognize, value and assist with cultural contexts that impact employee experiences.

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: Instructor: $115,000 to $135,000
AI Director Stipend: $15,000 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
