About the RoleThe Network Engineer II - COMSEC (Communications Security) will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure for classified environments. This role requires a deep understanding of network technologies, security protocols, and compliance with government regulations. Will work closely with system administrators, security personnel, and other IT staff to ensure the secure and efficient operation of network systems. Will oversee the secure handling of classified and sensitive information within Sierra Space, ensuring that communications channels are protected from unauthorized access or interception. This role will include managing COMSEC equipment, educating personnel on proper procedures, and investigating security incidents. This role will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and security of our communications infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and architect network solutions to meet the needs of classified environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Maintain inventory, document usage, and ensure proper storage and disposal of COMSEC equipment (e.g., encrypted devices, secure radios).

  • Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and virtual private networks (VPNs).

  • Develop and deliver training programs on COMSEC policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Prepare and report on security incidents, including potential violations or compromises of COMSEC.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of COMSEC policies and procedures.

  • Identify and assess potential COMSEC risks, recommending mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure adherence to relevant regulations and standards regarding COMSEC.

  • Effectively communicate COMSEC requirements and procedures to personnel at all levels.

  • Develop and maintain detailed network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

  • Work with other security teams and departments to ensure a cohesive security program.

  • Stay abreast of emerging threats and technologies, continuously improving COMSEC practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in network engineering, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications security, network engineering/architecture, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a classified environment.

  • CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent certification required. Additional certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or GIAC are a plus.

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required, with a current or the ability to obtain a CI Poly.

  • Proficiency in managing COMSEC equipment and understanding of encryption technologies. Proficiency in network technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and VPNs. Experience with network monitoring and management tools.

  • Strong understanding of COMSEC policies, procedures, and best practices. Understanding of network protocols, security frameworks, and standards, including NIST SP 800 series, RMF, ITAR, and DOD Cybersecurity.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound decisions under pressure.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: CCNA or higher (e.g., CCNP).

  • Experience with network design and implementation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Experience with network security practices and tools.

  • Knowledge of VOIP systems and protocols.

Compensation:

Pay Range:

$85,800 - $117,975

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education,experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This position requires current/active Top Secret with SCI eligibility and ability to obtain a CI polygraph U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
