About the RoleThe Cybersecurity Engineer/Information System Security Officer (ISSO) will be responsible for ensuring the security and integrity of classified information systems supporting multiple networks. The ISSO will work closely with system administrators, network engineers, and other security personnel to implement and maintain security measures that comply with government regulations and industry best practices.

The Cybersecurity Engineer/Information System Security Officer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced security measures to protect the organization's information systems. This role involves working with various security technologies, including encryption, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and multi-factor authentication. They will have extensive knowledge of secure systems architecture, emerging technologies, threats, and regulatory requirements. The Cybersecurity Engineer/Information System Security Officer will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure the security and integrity of the organization's information systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex security projects, stay updated with the latest industry trends, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization's security posture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all information systems are compliant with applicable security policies, standards, and regulations, including NIST, DoD, and other federal guidelines. Design, implement, and maintain advanced security measures, including firewalls, encryption, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and multi-factor authentication.

  • Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential security risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Develop, maintain, and update security documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Risk Assessment Reports (RARs), and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms). Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and documentation.

  • Lead and coordinate incident response activities, including detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery from security incidents.

  • Prepare for and participate in security audits and assessments conducted by internal and external entities.

  • Manage and monitor access control mechanisms to ensure that only authorized personnel have access to classified information systems.

  • Provide security training and awareness programs to employees and contractors to ensure compliance with security policies and procedures.

  • Implement and manage continuous monitoring programs to detect and respond to security threats in real-time. Monitor and respond to security incidents and alerts, providing technical support and troubleshooting.

  • Oversee the configuration management process to ensure that all changes to information systems are properly documented and authorized. Assist in the configuration, deployment, and management of security tools and technologies.

  • Work closely with other IT and security teams to ensure the secure design, implementation, and operation of information systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security best practices into system designs and deployments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree or Masters +3 years experience).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in information security or related fields, with at least 1 year in a classified environment. Typically, 5+ years of overall related experience.

  • (1 or more required) DOD IAT level II certifications, GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification), network technology certifications such as a CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), or SANS level 300 courses.

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required, with a current or the ability to obtain a CI Poly.

  • Proficiency in security tools, asset tracking tools, and technologies, including but not limited to Splunk, ACAS, EVSS, SNOW, eMASS, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).

  • Strong understanding of security frameworks and standards, including NIST SP 800-53, RMF, and FISMA. Knowledge of one or more: emerging technologies, emerging threats, emerging regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound decisions under pressure.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Security+, CySA+, GSEC, or equivalent

  • Familiarity with security information and event management (SIEM) tools.

  • Basic understanding of cloud security platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

Compensation:

Pay Range:

$74,085 - $101,887.50

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education,experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This position requires current/active Top Secret with SCI eligibility and ability to obtain a CI polygraph U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
