LOCATION

This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Principal Project Development Manager leverages extensive and diverse knowledge of management principles and practices across various assignments and related fields. This role involves making independent decisions on large, highly complex commercial issues and methods, and representing the business in negotiating and resolving important strategic business decisions. The position requires the application of advanced techniques and the modification or extension of theories and practices within the field. The manager will interpret, organize, and execute highly advanced and complex strategic assignments that pose significant risks to the business. This role is responsible for overseeing multiple large projects or programs simultaneously, with high complexity and strategic acquisitions typically ranging from $50 million to $500 million.

There are two Principal Development Manager positions available:

One position will be responsible for the prospecting and development of new natural gas generation and renewable natural gas facilities. This includes leading efforts for site selection, gas availability/production assessment, land acquisition, environmental assessments, community engagement, permitting, interconnection, preliminary design, equipment procurement, and financial analysis. The successful candidate for the Natural Gas Development Manager position will have experience in developing large natural gas facilities, applying for and managing natural gas pipeline interconnections, applying for and managing 345kV transmission interconnections within the Mid-Continent Independent System Operator (MISO) footprint, and constructing, maintaining, and/or operating gas turbine projects.

The second position will be responsible for the prospecting and development of wind, solar, and battery energy storage facilities. This includes leading efforts for site selection, solar or wind availability/production assessment, land acquisition, environmental assessments, community engagement, permitting, interconnection, preliminary design, equipment procurement, and financial analysis. The successful candidate for the Renewable Development Manager position will have experience in developing utility-scale (i.e. larger than 50 MW) renewable and energy storage projects, applying for and managing 100 kV and higher transmission interconnections within the Mid-Continent Independent System Operator (MISO) footprint, and constructing, maintaining, and/or operating renewable and storage energy systems.

  • Develop highly complex business cases and conduct due diligence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.



KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES




  • Expertise in project development.
  • Experience in major asset acquisition.
  • Proficiency in contract development and negotiations.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technology.
  • Strong business administration skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE




  • Bachelor's degree in business or engineering with seven (7) or more years of applicable experience.
  • OR Associate's degree in business or engineering with nine (9) or more years of applicable experience.
  • OR High school diploma with eleven (11) or more years of applicable experience.
