Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residence easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research based information to North Carolina citizens.
Lenoir County, NC is centrally located in eastern NC approximately 75 miles east of Raleigh (our state's capital) and 75 miles west of Morehead City (one of our seaports and the beautiful crystal coast). Lenoir County is a blend of agriculture and manufacturing. Kinston is the county seat. For more information about Lenoir County see:

Duties and Responsibilities This position provides leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of an effective educational program to meet the needs of the county population in the following areas of responsibility: field crops (tobacco, corn, cotton, peanut, small grains and soybeans) and pesticide education. This position will function as the county pesticide coordinator and be responsible for providing educational training opportunities for private, public, and commercial operators to obtain and maintain their licenses. The agent will be expected to develop specific educational programs and to collaborate with other agencies, groups, and organizations in order to more effectively reach intended audiences throughout the county.
The successful candidate is expected to be a team player working with the Extension staff and other organizations, possess a high degree of subject matter competence, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to work independently. |
Other Work/Responsibilities |
The successful candidate is expected to be a team player working with the Extension
staff and other organizations, possess a high degree of subject matter competence,
possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to work
independently. This person should be able to:
- Develop and maintain organized Agriculture programs in accordance with the mission
of North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
- Market Agriculture programs and services to the community using various media.
- Determine clientele needs and impact by assessing and evaluating the Agriculture
program and services on a regular basis.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist with the implementation and
maintenance of the Agriculture programs.
- Work collaboratively with other Extension programs, staff, agencies and community
organizations to meet the needs of the Agriculture program.
- Promote Agriculture within the community.
- Develop Agriculture programs that follow North Carolina Cooperative Extension, North
Carolina State University, North Carolina A&T State University, state, county and
national laws, policies, and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned. |

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5pm with evenings and weekends as needed. |
Minimum Experience/Education |
One of the following educational requirements: - A Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in an agricultural or related field. The minimum
GPA requirement will be waived for
NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor's degree. - A Bachelor's degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master's degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or - Completion of a Master's degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field. |

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
A bachelor's degree in agronomy or related area of science is preferred a related
Master's degree is preferred.
Travel within the county is required. Some travel within the state and district is required. Travel will be reimbursed following state guidelines.
Knowledge and experience in communications, presentation, public relations/marketing,
leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource
development is essential. |

Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required and must be
maintained. In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid driver's license is required and
must be maintained. |

Minimum Bachelor's $40,000; Minimum Master's $45,000; Minimum Doctorate $50,000 Commensurate with experience. |
