Regulatory and Safety Specialist

Job Responsibilities

  • Produce and maintain GHS-compliant Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labels.

  • Serve as local ambassador of the Corporate Koppers Zero Harm Program, including environmental/safety data entry into FOCUS.

  • Ensure facility environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures are in full compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal rules and regulations (such as OSHA, RCRA, FIFRA, NPDES, HazCom, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, Respiratory Protection).

  • Conduct virtual and/or on-site environmental, health, and safety training to facility employees and contractors.

  • Create and maintain the Site Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Management Programs, in accordance with Responsible Care initiatives.

  • Coordinate lab disposal program.

  • Take lead on all environmental/safety audits and inspections.

  • Periodically conduct drills and inspect Koppers facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where needed, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.

  • Address any workplace-related health issues and accidents and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

  • Coordinate with Corporate Zero Harm & Culture and Engagement (C&E) in the onboarding process for newly hired employees and KPC workers' compensation program.

  • Prepare and maintain technical files, databases, or systems to support the Regulatory team.

  • Coordinate, prepare, and review data and reports associated with regulatory submissions.

  • Process state sales reports and maintain state dealer licenses.

  • Process state pesticide product registrations or coordinate state registrations with regulatory consultant.

  • Assist manager with other duties such as TSCA statements, Management of Change, and Federal (US and Canada) pesticide applications, production, adverse effects, and sales reports.

  • Communicate with regulatory agencies as well as internal and external customers.

  • Maintain current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards, or guidance documents.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Candidate Qualifications/ Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field required

  • 3-5 years of experience in a regulated industry preferred. Regulatory experience ideal, but may consider research and development, quality assurance, or related field.

  • Knowledge of domestic and international chemical, biocidal and/or pesticidal regulations, specifically GHS, USEPA FIFRA, USEPA TSCA, Canadian PMRA, and Canadian WHMIS.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications (including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams), Adobe Acrobat, and other computer programs used for data generation and tracking.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Effective communication skills, verbally and written.

  • Experience authoring chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) a plus.
