Position Summary

The Associate General Counsel, Claims and Investigations (AGC), will work on the Office of the General Counsel team and with the partners of the firm to assist in managing Firm risk, including assessing and controlling for risks associated with emerging technologies (including GenAI) and cybersecurity and managing claims and investigations related to clients, employees, regulators, third parties, and others. The AGC's focus will primarily be in the Americas, but the AGC will assist with certain projects and matters managing risks on a global-scale.

Duties and Accountabilities1


  • Assist with the management of Americas claims and investigations, including professional negligence claims, regulatory investigations, employment matters, and subpoena responses
  • Assist with the oversight of outside counsel, including developing litigation strategy, reviewing pleadings, obtaining status updates, and managing invoices
  • As a liaison from the Office of the General Counsel, work with the Practice Technology and Global Technology teams on assessing and controlling for risks with emerging technologies, including GenAI
  • Provide best in class legal advice on cybersecurity threats and preparedness
  • Oversee global risk management projects, working with offices around the world, delivering results proactively and swiftly
  • Deliver training to Firm lawyers and Business Services professionals on compliance and risk management issues
  • Identify knowledge gaps within the Office of the General Counsel in area of focus and upskill other members of the team
  • Contribute to responsible business governance efforts on behalf of the Office of the General Counsel, collaborating with relevant teams to ensure compliance with incoming regulations
  • Contribute to an environment where team members go above and beyond to deliver high quality work
  • Raise profile and credibility as a go to person - share knowledge, experience, speak at events, train others
  • Develop long-lasting, trusting and collaborative relationships with internal clients

  • Understand future challenges and opportunities to influence the Office of the General Counsel or Firm strategy
  • Implement plans, technology and resources to improve efficiency and effectiveness within the Office of the General Counsel
  • Perform other duties necessary and essential to support the Firm's strategic goals

Qualifications


  • Strong academic qualifications
  • A qualified lawyer with a practicing certificate admitted in New York state
  • At least five (5) years' experience working as a litigator or in the Office of the General Counsel of a major international law firm
  • Experience with GenAI risk management, cybersecurity, professional negligence claims, or regulatory investigations preferred

Location & Reporting




    • This role is based in our New York office.
    • This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel, Head of Claims and Investigations.
