GENERAL SUMMARY

Unit Description: The 361-bed Henry Ford Macomb Hospital is a Level 2 trauma center, providing advanced emergency services to more than 56,000 adult and pediatric patients annually. Henry Ford Macomb is a Top 100 Heart Hospital with a 24/7 Cardiac Cath Lab and Primary Stroke Center. In addition, we are leaders in sepsis management. The hospital has consistently earned Top Hospital and an A grade for patient safety performance from The Leapfrog Group. We serve the needs of a diverse, high acuity patient population. 34% of ED patients seen are admitted, 72% of all hospital patients are admitted through the Emergency Department, Patient mix: 2% critically ill, 29% emergent care, 9% pediatrics, and 60% all others. This department consists of 17 senior staff physicians and 23 Emergency residents. There are more than 175 RNs and support personnel employed full-time by the department.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Nursing Director, in collaboration with the Medical Chairman and the Administrator, provides clinical support I the emergency department to produce optimal productivity with maximally time efficiency and a satisfying experience for emergency patients. This is accomplished by the Clinical Coordinator by the continuous overview of the demand-response status of all work groups and care areas and the continuous redirection, and redeployment of resources as required. This includes but not limited to: assisting with coordinating patient throughout (triage, placement in rooms/areas, diagnostic, treatment, dispositions) and ensuring completion of clinical tasks and movement of patients throughout the emergency department. Coaches staff in clinical critical thinking and customer service skills.
