Thomas College is searching for a mechanic who will perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on both light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of mechanical systems, as well as performing physically demanding tasks as needed. This position also provides support to general maintenance services. While not part of the regular on-call rotation, the role may occasionally require response to after-hours mechanical issues. The mechanic will perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs on both light and heavy equipment such as trucks, loaders, and tractors. Inspect equipment, analyze troubles and plan sequence of repair operations. Perform bumping, painting, heating, drilling, bolting, welding (MIG, Stick, TIG), brazing, sand blasting, soldering, or cutting operations. Train new employees in all phases of work including the operation of equipment, use of tools and methods or procedures of work. The selected candidate must have experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of equipment and other power-driven equipment and tools. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to work effectively and establish good working relationships with other employees. Valid driver's license, successful driver's license background check and pass College driving course. Ability to read an interpret service manuals, schematics and drawings. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and fitness for duty test. An acceptable driving record is highly desirable. Minimum of two years' experience in the aforementioned responsibilities, good to superior references in that field, and a HS diploma or GED is required. Must have ability to adapt to adverse weather condition and situation. Team player with a positive attitude is a must.
