The Brain Stimulation Mechanisms Laboratory (BSML) is seeking a self-motivated, postdoctoral fellow to join the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Research (TMS) Program in the Division of Depression and Anxiety Disorders at McLean Hospital. We aim to understand the neural mechanisms of non-invasive brain stimulation including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and to leverage this knowledge to improve clinical effectiveness. We bring together international experts in PTSD, depression, and anxiety; in non-invasive brain-based, pharmacology, and psychotherapy interventions; and the engineering of new tools for imaging and intervention. Our goals are to combine this interdisciplinary expertise to produce novel and robust interventions to prevent and decrease risk of suicide in at-risk populations. Our project aims to fundamentally change interventions for cognitive and emotional flexibility - under a transdiagnostic and universal set of conditions.
The candidate will be conducting research on understanding how Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapeutically and durably changes the brain. The primary approach is to measure changes in excitability, or plasticity, before and after rTMS protocols in combination with pharmacology designed to modulate key receptors. They will engage in investigation or other research, production, technical writing, and related activities. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
