The Position

As an experienced Facilities Engineer you will take a leading role as a mentor to plan, conduct, and direct engineering projects or studies including complete projects requiring advanced knowledge of a specialized field. You will apply comprehensive and diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices within broad assignment areas. These responsibilities will be performed in multiple site locations of GMP manufacturing facilities and R&D facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plant Engineering - Working in a regulated facility, identifies engineering needs for site facilities. Defines projects, develops innovative solutions, determines engineered solutions, develops project documentation, oversees capital or expense resources, obtains and evaluates competitive bids, and implements engineering changes/additions. Controls expenditures and project execution.
  • Facility Support - Supports site facility infrastructure, including HVAC system. Reviews system status and analyzes to identify trends. Manages engineering programs. Facilitates operating units' capability to perform their functions. Optimizes space utilization and energy conservation. Maintains a working knowledge of facility systems on the site. Supports troubleshooting and makes recommendations for improvement in support of safe, compliant, and reliable operations. Participates in root cause analyses of system failures.
  • Be responsible for overall management of capital projects including project scheduling, capital cost estimation, budget tracking, equipment specification, specific phases of design, resource planning, process development and equipment installation and qualification. Development of project costs and schedules will be based on customer driven needs.
  • Administrative - Ensures adherence to capital and expense budgets. Researches information and presents data on a wide variety of facility related topics including planning of facility needs, master facilities plan, and the disaster recovery plan. May perform management functions, including managing performance and providing training and development opportunities for staff. May act as qualified trainer for Facilities related SOP's, programs to support site training needs.
  • Partnering with Quality and Other Users - Ensures all change control processes are adhered to within regulated areas of the campus.
  • Energy Conservation - Analyzes energy consumption, identifies energy savings opportunities, develops appropriate projects and implements controls to improve conservation activities. Develops cost savings metrics and reports.
  • Green Operations - Analyzes facilities processes and equipment to identify opportunities for greener operation. Develops procedures, processes or projects to enhance Sustainability footprint.
  • Train technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Serve as facility technical liaison between, Production, QC, Engineering, R&D, and all indirect functional groups.
  • Direct troubleshooting and maintenance duties such as mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Typically 5 years job related experience, with at least 3 years facilities management, project engineering or equipment controls.

  • Must be customer focused and possess: (1) the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems; (2) excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings; (3) excellent interpersonal skills to guide employees, negotiate and resolve conflicts; (4) the ability to represent the company as a knowledgeable resource on external projects; and (5) excellent computer skills.

  • Basic understanding of facilities engineering concepts and building systems.

  • Knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets for data manipulation and reporting.

  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to data management and facilities maintenance.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and presentations.

  • Experience with data configuration and reporting in a technical or operational environment.

Bonus Skills:

  • Previous experience working for an organization that performs building renovations.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and develop system P&IDs.

  • Expert level knowledge of building automation, software configuration and commercial building operations.

  • Familiar with Industry Construction Standards and best practices

  • Knowledge of security systems and controls

  • Budgeting and supervisory/management experience.

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems.
